István Szapudi, an astronomer from the University of Hawaii, wants to create an enormous, umbrella-like solar shield made of the “wonder material” graphene, the goal being to stop global warming and climate change.
In order to do this, Szapudi wants to capture an asteroid and use it as a counterweight to hold the umbrella and intercept all of the sun’s ultraviolet rays so they never reach the earth’s surface.
Things would be really dark and cold in such a scenario, but at least it would never be warm again, warmth being something that climate fanatics everywhere fear like the plague and want to eliminate from the four corners of the earth.
Szapudi actually published a paper on his harebrained idea in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), a globalist bought-off “science” journal that apparently publishes just about anything these days.
“In Hawaii, many use an umbrella to block the sunlight as they walk about during the day,” Szapudi is quoted as saying in an attempt to sound smart.
“I was thinking: could we do the same for earth and thereby mitigate the impending catastrophe of climate change?”
(Related: Fake president Joe Biden thinks it’s a really cool idea to block the sun to stop global warming.)
Szapudi’s umbrella and asteroid idea is just one of many coming from climate fanatics these days who are proposing blocking sunlight with aerosol metals, “moon dust”, and other light blockers.
Not one of these people has explained precisely how their sun-blocking fantasies could ever become a reality, let alone provide scientific backing to show that such an idea would not be worse for the planet than fears about global warming.
Imagine that in some parallel universe the wannabe gods who rule this planet actually could launch a massive umbrella into space while tethering it to an incoming asteroid at just the right moment to keep earth in the dark, thus allowing it to cool in accordance with the globalists’ wishes: then what?
Would the earth remain in the dark forever? How would plant life grow without the sun? How would humans survive without the sun? What would humanity do for heat to keep themselves alive on a planet that no longer gets any warming sunlight?
These are questions that never get asked, of course, but who cares, right? As long as we can quell that pesky climate anxiety from the minds of leftists, the sky is the limit when it comes to contriving fantasy concepts for eliminating sunlight and turning the planet pitch black just to their liking.
Szapudi’s idea is to station his contraption at the “L1” Lagrange point, which is a position in space between the earth and the sun where objects sent there tend to stay put and not oscillate or move out of place.
The weight of his shield and counterweight combined would be about 3.5 million tons, which is about 100 times lighter than previous estimates for an untethered shield.
Szapudi admits that his idea “has enough weight to wreak havoc” if anything should go wrong, including the possibility that the entire apparatus crashes into earth and kills millions, and potentially billions, of people. It is worth it, apparently, to avoid having hot summers and fires and things like that.
“If multiple tethers hold the shield, breaking one or two would not create an accident,” Szapudi says.
“When down to two tethers, the shield automatically turns away from the solar radiation (like a sail when the rigging breaks), and the counterweight pulls the structure safely toward the sun. The structure would be lost in the worst case, but the security threat to earth is negligible.”
Will the climate fanatics be successful in their endeavors to block the sun and turn the planet into a frozen ball of ice? Stay tuned at GreenTyranny.news.
